Caring & Caregiving ~ Going Beyond Your Comfort Zone.

December 17, 2013

Today I choose to get outside my comfort zone of doing the norm.  My wings spread in the act of caregiving for another, and not in my ‘chosen area of focus’ – which is Beauty, Design and Writing…clearly the Gifts I have been given from the Divine.

Today I chose to take care of an elderly woman and bring her to a Doctor for a much needed examination and treatment of her horribly infected and swollen legs. They desperately needed care, and so did she.  Love and Healing in a Graceful, accepting way was the opening for this woman. I did not expect to be asked to ‘stay’ with her in the examination room when the Doctor walked in, but she wanted me there, so I stayed, as if I were a Loving Daughter.  Support and unconditional Love can be very Present, even in the eyes and heart of someone you hardly know.

He unwrapped her bandages and many stockings that held in the fluids and muscles that were sagging and open and wounded beyond belief, with almost all the colors of the rainbow.  As he unraveled and unwrapped, I just held this woman’s hand and gave her a look and feeling of Love that was unspoken and unconditional, but felt.  Somehow she knew I was there to let her know it was all OK, that it was all right. She was going to be fine.

The Doc prescribed a treatment that was not approved yet by the FDA, but had a 75% success rate and in clinical trials. She wanted to take the paperwork home and ‘think’ about it.  After a few encouraging conversations from Doc, Nurse and myself, she made the decision to ‘Just Do It’!

Have YOU heard those words before:  JUST DO IT!  This precious old woman is close to 90 and she is just ‘doing it’ all alone, by herself, without any family or friends nearby. Imagine what kind of COURAGE she has!  Imagine how BRAVE she is. Imagine how SIGNIFICANT a Friend, a warm smile, a hand to hold, a new breath of Life can be to someone who has no one . . . or maybe she does, and I just don’t know about it.

Today I encourage you to go out and touch someone’s heart that needs touching. Feed them, hold them, touch them, feel them, be Present to them, and then embrace them. Let them know they are not alone, even if they feel they are. Let them know you care, and you are available to them. Let them FEEL YOUR LOVE that is forever and always deep inside of you to shower upon others, and in the act of doing so, you are Loved!

I am a part-time caregiver for my elderly Mother who is 90.  She distances herself from me and still, to this day, I do not know why.  I don’t question it, I JUST DO IT. . . whatever needs being done. Sometimes that means Loving her from a distance, sometimes its close up and personal, sometimes its just in the doing or being. . . every day is different. The only one steady I have is my unconditional Love for her.  It is constant.  It is vibrant.  It is unconditional.  It is infinite. It is beautiful. It has no beginning and no end. It is as it is.

I recognize so clearly that these are our last days and years together and I am filled with GRATITUDE for all the LOVE we have shared and continue to share.  Sometimes it has been hard, porous, rough, difficult, and full of anguish and pain.  Other times it has filled us up with so much joy, laughter, happiness, hope, inspiration, and clear access to the Heart of the Divine.

Every day is a new day. I never know what will arrive on my Platter of Possibilities. I am in the field of Divine Love and Divine Potential, and when the Divine speaks to me and moves through me, I will clearly know it and act upon it. But this day, today, this moment in time, I am acting on the impulse to ‘do for others as you would have them do unto you.’  I am being fully Present and acting out of Divine Inspiration for those that need my help, want my help and reach out for my help.  I am here. Ready. Willing. Available. Able.  Present.

Is there someone in your Life that needs your Love. . . or your help?  Is there someone you can open up your Heart to today?

JUST DO IT.  Be consciously aware of what is within you, beside you, and around you.  Be fully Present to this moment. Embrace the Divine Love that is always within you and around you. You will be infinitely Blessed in doing so.

For this one moment today, I left this lovely woman with a Christmas card and hugged her warmly, but gently, as she was so fragile. I don’t think she has been held or hugged for a very long time. . . but today, she allowed me to do it, and in that moment I gave her my full Heart.

Cloak of Divine Love

Cloak of Divine Love

Cloak of the Divine

December 12, 2013

Like a Cloak of Divine Love, hanging loosely over my shoulders, I am embraced today by  Divine Presence.  As I still my thoughts and quiet my mind, my body rests in complete peace.

I feel the embrace of the Divine.  My body has left its weight behind, and I am no longer bound by its heaviness or activities. I am weightless in the Presence of the Divine.  I am soaring through this heavenly tunnel of white light and lifted up beyond the world of existence, as I know it, day in and day out.  I am transported into a space of nothingness, emptiness and the Divine.

All is quiet.  All is still.  All is Beautiful.  All is Breathtaking.  All is Presence.  All is Exquisite.  All is One.  All is Expansive.  All is Inclusive.   All is Everlasting.  All is Timeless and Eternal.  All is Now, in this Moment.  All is Sacred.  All is Love.

There are no words to describe this experience.  They would be far to shallow for the profound depth and expansion of ones being.  It must be felt.  It must be experienced.  It must be revealed and known to one self as the layers of the human self are unraveled, and let go of. It is complete and utter surrender to what is.

I have been here before, in full surrender, and in complete and utter peace.  I was so young then, 19 years old.  After the most tragic and utter experience of loss, I just gave in.  I let go.  And the Divine embraced me, lifted me, caressed me, held me, and loved me, utterly and completely.

I am no longer walking in another’s shadow, or my own.  I am embracing my Divine Self, as it is, wholly and completely.  It is Holy.  It is Divine.  It is Magnificent.

Nelson Mandela – One Extraordinary Man, One Great Legacy of World Peace

Nelson Mandela - One Extraordinary Man, One Great Legacy of Peace

Nelson Mandela – One Extraordinary Man,  One Great Legacy of World Peace.

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”  ~  Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela – One Man, One Heart, One World….A Man of Extraordinary Courage, Wisdom and Charisma who changed the world, one person at a time, one breathe at at time, one day at a time, with every human being he came in contact with.  His wisdom of practicing peace in the midst of turmoil and forgiveness in the center of unforgivable acts of cruelty were his trademarks of an extraordinary man who understood what it meant to have extraordinary courage.  His insistence on forgiveness over vengeance made him a powerful symbol of Peace as he challenged, stood up for, fought for, and struggled to end his country’s brutally codified system of racial domination.

Imagine serving 27 years in prison, breaking hard bricks in the hot African sun and high temperatures, simply because you were convicted of treason by the ‘white’ minority government, only to forge ahead with a peaceful end to white rule by negotiating with your captors, and then to become President of your Country. Peaceful resolution that transcended decades of racial division. Not an easy negotiation in the depths of conflict and fear.

Nelson Mandela’s tireless struggle for the freedom of his people earned him the respect of the world. His North Star was never far off from his prison gates that held him captive for so many years.  None of us can imagine what those 27 years were like for Nelson Mandela to be without his freedom, let alone doing hard labor and breaking bricks in the hot noonday sun.  The beauty and the grace of this one man’s spirit was stronger than those prison walls and the bars that held him captive….He miraculously negotiated with his captors with his deep humility,  compassion, and a profound understanding of  humanity, which earned him their Love and their respect.

From a prison release in 1990 to a resounding electoral victory as the first black President in 1994, and the first fully democratic election in Africa’s history, Nelson Mandela made history happen simply by being who he was. Significant. Elegant. Humble. Compassionate.  Wise. Intelligent. Caring. Humble. Loving. Honorable. Kind. Educated. Peaceful. Patient. Powerful.  But more than any of these exceptional qualities, Nelson Mandela had a Vision to end apartheid and free his people from racial oppression. That vision that he held so close to his own heart and his absolute belief that it was possible in his lifetime, was stronger and more powerful than any detention behind bars and peoples closed minds and hearts.

He was Africa’s greatest son whose vision changed the world, one person at a time, one moment at a time, one day at a time. Nelson Mandela’s North Star of Freedom was his Guiding Light, and with great respect and dignity, he delivered that freedom in his lifetime to his people.  From Statesmen to children, every black African gained their freedom as Nelson Mandela walked towards the light, after  27 years of captivity and a Vision that he held so close to his own heart, it had no where else to go but out into the Universe to deliver its gifts of freedom to everyone.  The world will not see a man like this again.

Godspeed Nelson Mandela.  Millions of people will forever honor you with their full Hearts of Gratitude for being such a Beautiful, humble servant.  Your vision made it possible. One Man. One Heart. One World. One moment at at time.  How extraordinary that you, Mr. Mandela, served as the first black leader and President of your Nation in the same lifetime as our leader and black President Barak Obama, and both of you have won the Nobel Peace Prize.  Martin Luther King and all of us on the Planet are crying tears of Gratitude for you today, our Beloved Brother.
